Skegness Speed Weekend

We have a busy weekend ahead of us and over 50 cars currently booked in, so could really do with some help from the members please.  We are looking for volunteers to complete the following tasks.  It is a perfect opportunity for us to train people on different roles within the club and for people to shadow the work that is done, so then if there is an emergency, we can call upon people to help out and there should be a smooth transition.

 We need volunteers for:

-       Scrutineering

-       Podium board / trophies

-       Grids / results board

-       Radio checks

Please drop Claire a message if you are interested in getting involved.

For those who have asked, there is paid practice on Saturday only.  1.30pm to 5.30pm £25 each.

The stadium are doing a promotion for Women in Motorsport and have asked that all our female drivers meet at the pit gate at 5:30pm please on the Saturday for a photoshoot along with the F1 and F2 female drivers.

We’ve accepted an additional fixture at Kings Lynn on Saturday 21st May with F1s and 2L saloons.

26/10/21 - Gold roof/world of shale post race scrutineering

Hi All

Firstly sorry for not getting this on the website last week time caught up with us all and it got missed off.
As you are all aware post race scrutineering takes place after the gold top race and the world of shale and because we have three championships in a row then sealing of the engines is the only sensible thing to do to avoid expensive stripping of engines not only in gaskets but time as well and as you all agreed at the drivers briefing then this is what we shall be doing.

Please can you all drill a 3 mm hole in two head studs alongside each other also two bell housing bolt heads and two diff studs please photos attached.

Some other scrutineering to other easier components may be done on the day. Saturday/Sunday the 13th or 14th will be the allocated day to formally strip the engines at a venue to be arranged.

For any questions regarding this subject please ring Richard or Gary

02/10/21 - Change of date for the gold roof race

Due to the volume of bangers booked in on Saturday 16th October, Startrax have made the decision to move our gold roof race to Saturday 30th October, with the F1 shootout round.

The last chance race will still take place on 16th October at Bradford where we have been allocated 4 races.

The gold top race on 30th October will be the first race of the night with a parade lap from 5:15pm to 5:30pm. We have been allocated 5 races for that night.

If this effects your booking, please let Kev know ASAP.

All the drivers on the same points, flipped coins at Birmingham to decide starting positions, so we can now confirm the grid as below.

30/06/21 Fixture changes

We have been offered an additional date at Bradford on 14th August. After careful consideration, the committee have decided to accept this date. With us only having one Bradford fixture before the National championship in October, this will allow us to assess the suitability of the track for our biggest meeting of the year and will give some track time for those who want it.

We have also had to make the tough decision to cancel the fixtures in the Isle of Man. With rises in Covid cases, the promoter is concerned that the island will keep their quarantine in place, which could mean we have to cancel at the very last minute, which is not what we want. There is also some stringent rules around adults having to have had both of their Covid vaccines at least two weeks before travelling and children having to isolate until a negative test is returned.

With this in mind, we have made the following changes to the fixture list :

Thu 29th July / Sat 31st July / Mon 2nd Aug – Isle of Man - cancelled

Sat 31st July – Birmingham – European (moved from 14th August to allow us time for post-race scrutineering without having a fixture the following day)

Sat 14th August – Birmingham (for those wanting to race on tarmac for the weekend)

Sat 14th August – Bradford

Sat 14th August – Venray – cancelled

Sun 15th August – Venray - cancelled

26/04/21 - Update from Richard

The training day was a huge success thanks to everyone for their help, Hopefully this will now be a annual event.

Because of our increased membership we are desperate for help at meetings. We know you are all busy with your own teams but so are the committee and without help the amount of meetings we do will definitely have to be reduced in quantity and car numbers even further so please please volunteer to help!

We suggest that volunteers can help on a rota basis so you don’t have to do it at every meeting.

I can’t stress enough how much this help is needed and quite truthfully if it’s not forthcoming we will fall foul of health and safety rules and we will just get promotions complaining and go backwards.

So if you want the best out of your Club please help put something in and don’t leave it to the same few.

For more information of what’s required please contact either Claire (07896 548608), Gary (07814 549426) or Richard (07801 425425) ASAP please.

01/04/21 - Racing for fun day – Novices, Whites and Yellow graders

The committee are pleased to confirm we have secured a National Ministox only day at Birmingham Wheels on Sunday 25th April for all new novices, existing novices, as well as current Whites and Yellow graders.

It is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to start in the next six months and will give the new drivers plenty of valuable practice on the track with other drivers, in preparation for their first race meeting.

The draft order of the day will be:

  • 9am – Arrival time for anyone needing to take their test

  • 9.30am - Classroom exercise followed by on track exercise

  • 11am – Whites and Yellows to arrive for scrutineering

  • 11:30am-12:00pm - Whites and Yellows practice

  • 12-4pm – Race meeting (format to be confirmed)

For this to be really beneficial for the new drivers, we would also like to ask existing members (blues, reds and superstars) to attend, without their car, to help support the new drivers and provide some invaluable mentoring and training on the day.

The cost will be £50 per driver (including a maximum of 5 team members) for the day, but if we get a good turnout, then this cost will be reduced on the day.  There is no cost for those drivers coming to mentor.

Please book in by texting Kev on 07976 578599 (for this meeting only) with the driver name and number.  If you need to purchase a raceceiver from the club, can you let Kev know when you book in please, so he can make sure he brings plenty with him.  Can you also book in with Kev if you are coming to help support.

Further details about the format will follow nearer the time when we have an idea of driver numbers.

Click here to download our new driver info pack which we hope will be helpful for new drivers.

Any queries, please feel free to give Richard a call on 07801 425425.

We look forward to meeting you all then 😊

25/03/21 Update

World of shale 2020 – Based on the points scored at the 3 shale meetings in 2020, the grid has been confirmed as follows:

World of Shale Grid.png

A breakdown of the points for this can be found on the points page of the website.  Drivers on the same points will need to flip a coin to decide who starts where.

This meeting will be open to a maximum of 44 drivers with the qualifiers for the WoS taking priority booking.

Grading List – This has been updated on the points page following some recent applications and people who have confirmed they will not be renewing their licences this year.  There has been no changes to roof colours.

Fixture Changes – Since the fixtures were uploaded at the weekend, we have some changes.  These are:

·         Saturday 15th May at Birmingham will no longer be the British Championship

·         NEW Saturday 5th June at Skegness – British Championship 2020 (as we didn’t get to run it in 2020 as the last Kings Lynn meeting was cancelled)

·         29th August at Sheffield – Ministox have been missed off their fixture list by accident but is still on

·         Friday 10th September at Odsal – no longer on the fixture list

·         Sunday 19th September – change from Ipswich to Aldershot

·         Saturday 23rd October at Kings Lynn – British Championship 2021

Bookings –A reminder that bookings open on 10th of each month for the following month, eg 10th April for meetings in May.  If there are meetings at two different tracks on the same day, when booking, please let Kev know if you are able to make both meetings and let him know the meeting you would prefer. Bookings will be from 9am to 9pm. Any booking outside these times won’t be counted.

Novices can book in for meetings but will not be able to race until they have taken their test.

20/03/21 Update

FIXTURES - We are pleased to be able to release our provisional fixture list for the 2021 season.  As expected with the current climate, this is subject to change and any amendments will be released here on the website as soon as we know.

Some of these fixtures may mean we have to restrict the numbers of bookings or may result in each driver only getting two races.  The committee will do their best to ensure this is a last resort.

Due to the shortened season, we will be running 14 National Championship Qualifying Rounds with the top 10 scores from those meetings counting towards each drivers position on the grid.

Whites & Yellows Championship – This would normally be run as separate whites and yellows heats to score qualifying points for the final.  We are going to struggle to run separate races this year due to the number of drivers and track limits, so for 2021 the qualifying rounds will be from points scored in all races in the first grading period.  This will then decide the grid for the 1st race on Sunday 6th June.

RULE BOOK - The 2021 rule book is also now available on the website (click here).  It has had minimal changes made to the 2020 rule book, but any changes are highlighted in red to make it easy to spot.

TRAINING DATE - We are still working on confirming a training date for the new drivers and current whites and yellows but it is possible this will be at Birmingham towards the end of April.  Due to health and safety requirements, any driver new to National Ministox, must have a driver assessment before being issued with a licence.  As soon as we have more details we will advertise.

NEW CAR TECHNICAL SCRUTINEERING - Due to time constraints and facilities, we will not be completing any technical scrutineer of new cars at tracks anymore.  If you need to book your new car in for an assessment, please get in touch with Richard in plenty of time.

HELP WANTED - As you will have seen from the fixtures, we will be running some weekends at multiple tracks.  In order to help with the running of the meetings, we are looking for volunteers to help out on the day.

·         Scrutineers (will need ORCi training)

·         Keeping the information board up to date with grids and results

·         Radio checks of drivers prior to going on track

If you are interested in any of the roles, please speak to a member of the committee.  To help maintain the clubs standards and image at race meetings, please, please put your name forward as these positions really do need filling.

We look forward to seeing everyone in early May!

23/12/20 - Annual Awards

2020 wasn’t the season we were all hoping for, but was great that we managed to get some racing in. Our drivers are only with us for a short time before turning 16 and although we aren’t having a presentation evening this year, we didn’t want them to miss out on the annual awards.
